Lindler House Under Contract
Wednesday, 02 December 2009

After nearly a year of work, and a beautiful new coat of exterior paint, the Lindler House in Ballentine is beacon of hope and the embodiment of the Palmetto Trust’s mission.   Not only is the pre-revolutionary war home now under contract, the story of this process is one we are very proud of.

Once threatened with demolition for a new Wal-Mart store, the Trust was able to intercede, open lines of communication and save the property.  Building relationships led to substantial grants from both the Wal-Mart foundation and the Richland County Conservation Commission for rehabilitation efforts.  Their role in this process is one that made this important project possible.

Soon, this home will live out its legacy as an economically contributing part of society – and after all, this is at the heart of the Trust’s mission – stimulating economic vitality through appropriate preservation of our historic architecture.

Perhaps the enthusiasm of Matt Sasser, from Meyers Brothers Properties, Inc of Atlanta, Georgia said it best when he made the following remarks on his involvement with the project:

“I am so proud to have been a part of this and the preservation of such an important part of SC history! Thank you giving me such a ‘once in a life time opportunity.’ It isn’t everyday that a Wal-Mart developer gets an opportunity like this. It has been a pleasure and honor!”

Friday, 23 October 2009

South Carolina’s Other State Capitol To Be Restored
Monday, 08 June 2009

The Dawkins House, one of the most historic structures from South Carolina’s history is on the path to full restoration.

peter_triggiani_pays_the_price.jpgThe Dawkins House, used as a refuge for the Palmetto State’s government in 1865 when Columbia was burned and its capital building destroyed, will now be restored to its former glory. Last week Peter Triggiani, an experienced historic preservationist, bought the house for one dollar from the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation and the Union/Laurens Commission on Higher Education.
