When we as preservationists advocate the rehabilitation of our old buildings, we constantly have to be aware of how to communicate our issue to those folks who don’t understand how fixing up something old is better than tearing down and building something new. Unfortunately, it’s understandable mind set. The issues related to proper rehabilitation can be complex and confusing to those unschooled in the process. If we are to be successful in our advocacy, then we must be patient and take advantage of the opportunities that are before us.

 On July 17th, I had the pleasure of hosting our Board of Directors annual meeting at my home in Prosperity.

Over the past several months, the Palmetto Trust has been receiving a lot of great media coverage. Our latest preservation efforts have been highlighted on “Your Day” with Bob Becker, “ETV Forum” with Beryl Dakers and a “yet to be broadcasted” segment on NPR’s “Walter Edgar’s Journal”.

After spending the end of last week in Greenville for the annual Landmark and Preservation Conference, I’m compelled to send out a big “thank you!” to the city of Greenville, and to the many individuals and groups that made the time here so enjoyable for me, our board of directors and all the members and partners that participated.
